About Us

Who are The Original Spinners?

The Original Spinners are a clown inspired dance improvisation collective. We are based in Bristol in the UK and we were founded in early 2010 by Rachael Smith-James, a community dance artist.

What do you do?

We create surprise performances that take short bursts of high energy and happiness to unsuspecting audiences. We also run exciting and inspiring classes and workshops for all ages.

To get a sense of what we do why not take a look at our films on Youtube.

Why?

The Original Spinners are a fun-loving, inclusive group of clowns, with play, love and happiness at the heart of what they do. The point is to put a little magic in the everyday, to make people smile, laugh & dance and most importantly, to give those that encounter it a positive shared experience.

Sounds great, can i book you for my venue/event?

Absolutely. We have improvised with bands, created evenings/performances of magic and play, and appeared and disappeared in a blink of an eye with happenings. We have performed at many different bars, conferences and festivals, including Colston Hall, Croissant Neuf, Green Man and Shambala.

Our work is very much about getting people involved in dancing and playing, so our performances have often been preceded by a workshop where we teach the ‘Happening’ and then take participants out to perform with us.

How can I get involved?
